Before you apply for HIPUtah, consider applying for Assurant Health. Assurant has helped many Utah residents obtain coverage, after local insurers such as Blue Cross, SelectHealth, and Altius have denied them.
Assurant offers lenient underwriting, high deductible health plans, condition specific deductibles, and exclusion riders to help get you covered. They also offer an optional 36-month rate guarantee, so your premium is locked in for three full years and a decreasing deductible, so if you don't meet your deductible for a full six months, your deductible decreases by 10% every six months until it is nearly cut in half.
It is suggested that if you have been denied because of a health condition or prescription costs, that you apply for the "OneDeductible" plan with the highest deductible you are willing to accept. This will give you the best chance of receiving an offer.
The Comprehensive Health Insurance Pool of Utah (HIPUtah) has been providing health insurance to residents of Utah who have been denied or are uninsurable since 1991.
Individual health insurance companies in Utah have the legal right to deny someone health insurance based on their health history, medication costs, or ongoing medical problems. Some of these conditions include cancer, asthma with recent ER visits, back problems, diabetes, heart problems, and other health problems.
HIPUtah does have eligibility requirements an applicant must meet before they are approved for coverage. One of them is that the applicant must have lived in Utah for the last 12 months. If they haven't, then the application will likely be denied.
On January 1st, 2010, the NetCare program will likely be in effect. To learn more and stay updated on the plan before it begins, please visit Utah NetCare and add the site to your favorites.
